2016 OSU Hargis Art Fellows: Cristina Gonzalez & Andy Mattern

As a DRCA summer faculty fellow, I finished revising my book manuscript, "Landscapes of Conversion: Franciscan Politics and Sacred Objects in New Spain," and drafted a new chapter for an exhibition catalogue to be published by the San Antonio Museum of Art (in conjunction with their forthcoming exhibition "Circa 1718: Mexican Art During San Antonio's First Century"). The residency provided much needed time and space in a majestic environment conducive to focused writing and intellectual inspiration. As a scholar of late colonial New Spain concerned with the art of the northern frontier, the setting was perfect. Coinciding with important exhibitions in Taos and Santa Fe was an added bonus.
